Role of emitter position and orientation on silicon nanoparticle-enhanced fluorescence

High-index spherical dielectric nanoparticles are explored as templates for tailoring the fluorescence of nearby electric point-dipole-like emitters. The role emitter orientation and position around nanosphere on modification both its excitation emission rate is studied rigorously through derivation appropriate analytic solutions. It shown that nanoparticles, which support a richness optical modes or magnetic character thus variety mechanisms near-field enhancement, provide moderate enhancement factors—as compared, e.g., to their plasmonic counterparts—which survive, however, wide range positions orientations. Understanding physical governing this behaviour, offers promising route towards efficient control properties randomly arranged emitters, widely facilitated by existence expressions such ones derived here. Further can be achieved designing nanoparticle-aggregate antennas, combining components.
